The Bishops of the United States have proclaimed the first Sunday of October to be “Respect Life Sunday”. The month of October has been dedicated to emphasizing the importance of human life from the womb to the tomb. Marches, protests, and numerous prayers to the Throne of Heaven are employed to make even the smallest dent in the greatest holocaust this world has ever seen.

Next month we will have to choose who leads this country. Each one of us has the civic duty to fully educate ourselves on all struggles weighing down our society and the world. There are many issues we should care about as Christians seeking to live in charity, yet none are as serious as that of abortion. In fact, the reported number of surgical abortions in this country has reached at least 45 million. For every two people born in this country since 1973, a third is missing. This count doesn’t even include abortions by drugs such as RU-486 and the pill (if an egg drops while using the pill and becomes fertilized, high levels of progestin in the pill have a secondary effect of preventing embryos from attaching to the uterine wall, and so they die). The USA only makes up 5% of the world’s population. Imagine the numbers multiplied around the world. It’s staggering.

I’m a single issue voter ladies and gentlemen, but only because there is no other issue that will impact the history of the world more than the issue of life – and death. History is made up of people and their influence on others. I will not put the fate of this world in the hands of people who want to shape that history into one of convenience for themselves at the cost of death for those they feel to be ”unwanted”. The Immaculate Heart of Mary, and the Sacred Heart of Jesus will triumph in the end; they want everyone with a passion that would burst every heart among us. We are her children, the treasure purchased by His death, and the ones set free to enter His home by his cross and resurrection. Let us never cease to first pray and then act in grace to shine in the darkness by our very lives.

Be not afraid; the darkness will not overcome!
